Funky Little Shack was founded on a simple yet game-changing idea – granny flats don’t have to be boring and old fashioned!

In 2016, founder Mel Miller was working as a building designer in a town planning firm when she discovered that the Council allowed people to add a granny flat to their property, most often without the need for a costly development application. Seeing the potential, she realized these spaces could offer so much more – providing a stylish and functional home for elderly parents, giving adult children an affordable place to live while maintaining independence and privacy, or even creating an extra source of income for those who want to retire, or as a mortgage helper.

“But when we looked at existing granny flat options, they were uninspiring – boxy, outdated, and lacking personality. That’s when the vision for Funky Little Shack came to life. We set out to create beautifully designed, custom small homes that people would love living in and proud to invite their friends to. A home that would add real value to both their property and lifestyle.” Mel Miller.

Today Funky Little Shack continues to push the boundaries of what a granny flat can be, blending sustainability, style, and smart design to create homes that people love living in and proud to call their own.
