Say hello to this stunning rustic granny flat nestled in Tallebudgera Valley on the Gold Coast QLD.

La Casita is a 43m2 one bedroom home, and an expansive 30m2 deck & open plan living room.

This Funky Little Shack has been personalized to match and harmonise with the existing Puerto Rican-style home. Gorgeous rustic tiles are used throughout the kitchen and bathroom.

When Karen first came to us she wanted a Funky Little Shack for her adult son to live in. The family wanted a bit of extra space for privacy and independence.

They wanted something that wasn’t too large, one bedroom with a minimalist kitchen. They also wanted a large deck to capture the beautiful trees that surround the property.

The main home has a unique aesthetic for the Gold Coast - it’s in a Puerto Rican style. We wanted to design something to complement the existing look of the home, but at the same time have its own personality.

We took the feature element of the rustic timber trimming in the main home and used that to inform the shack and cladding. This connects the two home styles, while also forming a contrast.

We also really wanted to capture the beautiful rainforest that surrounds the property.

We have done that by orientating the balcony toward the view, and with specific placement of windows and doors. It really feels like a beautiful treehouse when you’re inside.

La Casita is located close the main home, nestled between an already established garden. The connecting staircase that runs down the property from the main dwelling through the garden to the Shack feels like an enchanted secret path.

From there we followed the look and feel inside with rustic tones to capture the essence.

We started with these feature tiles, which informed the rest of the color scheme, including a couple of feature wall colors in gray and brown tones.

This great result has significantly increased the value of Karen’s property and her family’s lifestyle.
