About
Kerynne’s tale is one of hardship and rebirth. When she lost her Lismore home in the 2021 east coast floods, she was left with almost nothing and was forced to rebuild.
She came to Funky Little Shack to create a new home for herself on her son’s property. But the tight available space on the block meant we had to get creative.
The home had to be attached to the main house to fit. The boundary line was also on an angle, and the block sloped down from the street. This meant a custom design was the key.
We designed Castello to integrate seamlessly with the main dwelling, so it looks like one home from the street. We also created a trapezoid shaped layout and split-level design due to site limitations, resulting in one our most unique designs ever.
This home has 60m2 of maximised internal space. The upper level includes a master bedroom with built-in wardrobe, bathroom, and a laundry cupboard. It also has a specially designed study nook, so Kerynne can look out over the void space to the lower level and her fantastic views.
Tidy stairs lead down to the lower level, opening up to an open plan living room and kitchen area with a high raked ceiling. The kitchen has an island bench, and L-shaped layout with overhead cupboards.
Sliding glass doors connect the living room to a 21m2 verandah where Kerynne can soak in the views.
Kerynne is now living her best life in a bespoke split-level granny flat that perfectly suits her personality and needs.
She now lives close to her son, while maintaining her privacy and independence.
