About
Danny’s Den is an 80m2 small home created a father and son, with an extensive verandah for outdoor living.
Sitting on a semi-rural property of approximately 2 acres we located the Shack on the western boundary. It faces east over the large green lawn surrounded by native gum trees.
The home is situated 20m from the main dwelling, home to Danny’s family. The location and orientation creates a connection point to the main house, central pool and cabana area. While it also maintains privacy and independence for all family members.
Using a long rectangular design, we located the two bedrooms at either end of the Shack for privacy, with a central, open plan living/dining/kitchen area.
The kitchen has a large island bench that morphs into the dining table. We used a modern combination of stone and timber and have loads of storage including overhead cupboards, tall pantry, dishwasher and wide fridge space.
The bedrooms are a large 5 x 3.1m, each with its own completely built in robe, floating desk and shelves, and sliding glass doors connecting to the deck.
Natural light and cross breezes pour into this Shack through its extensive use of glass.
The main bathroom has a large walk-in shower, wall mounted vanity with drawers and shaver’s cabinet for additional storage. A large 1500mmH window let’s filtered light in through the surrounding trees.
There is a separate toilet with own vanity, and a large cupboard houses the laundry, linen and broom storage.
A bold colour scheme of Monument (dark grey) was chosen for for the cladding, windows and roof. This contrasts against natural stained merbau decking, posts and feature timber slats.
Rustic timber look flooring was laid throughout the interior. White walls and high raked ceilings create an expansive feel. While timber and grey accents were chosen for the kitchen, bathroom, walls and tiling.

“With the way prices are going, I think by the time my kids are at the age of buying a property it will be for the rich only. Secondary dwellings are such a great alternative.” Ryan C.
